I offer private and small-group classes, both in my studio in downtown Victoria and in various locations in the south of Vancouver Island.

I specialize in Therapeutic Yoga for Chronic Pain and Chronic Fatigue, Memory Loss, Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, and Addiction, as well as for musculoskeletal issues and healthy aging generally. I have training in yoga for a variety of specific conditions.

Therapeutic Yoga uses the modalities of yoga, including asana (the poses), pranayama (the breathing exercises) and meditation, to help people deal with various challenges to their health and wellness.

I work with each client to develop a safe, enjoyable practice that is specific to their unique needs. I make use of various modalities, including Hatha, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Yin, Restorative, Chair and Bed classes, as well as Aerial and Aqua yoga.

Hatha - Ha-Tha (“Sun-Moon”) - Poses are explored slowly and systematically, building from more basic to more complex. This approach develops the integrity and intelligence of the body.

Vinyasa - Poses are linked together in fluid series; breath and movement are coordinated. Vinyasa is a moving meditation, really. It may be vigorous, but doesn’t have to be. Many people find that the coordination of breath and movement in this approach is calming for the mind.

Yin - Poses are generally done on the ground and are held for 2 to 5 minutes. Because muscular effort is kept to a minimum, connective tissue can approach its (safe) maximum. Unlike Restorative Yoga, Yin is not comfortable. Yin teaches non-reactivity, inviting us to take “gentle interest” in our own minds.

Restorative - Poses are completely supported with props, allowing the body to relax and release. People often find this practice deeply nourishing. This is "quality down time."

Chair - Poses are modified so they can be done from a chair. "Regular" yoga uses all kinds of props: blocks, bolsters, blankets ... A chair is just another prop. The benefits of the practice are the same.

Bed - Practice is thoughtfully modified so that it respects your current range.

Aerial - Poses are done with the support of a soft hammock. Supported in the hug of the hammock, the body relaxes, extends, and opens. The swing brings an element of novelty and fun into the practice. It also permits “titrating” inversions, so that everyone can experience their benefits – in particular for the endocrine and nervous systems – without unduly stressing the musculoskeletal or cardiovascular systems.

Aqua - Poses are done in water. The water doesn't just take weight off the joints, but it changes the direction of resistance, and, critically, offers constant neurological feedback. A wash for your nerves!

Ashtanga –Many people associate the name “Ashtanga” with the system popularized by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. There are, however, several different elaborations of the Ashtanga (“8 limbs”) doctrine. The eight limbs include study and ethical practice.

Looking for something else? Ask me, I've probably checked it out!
